The Astros selected him as the 1st overall pick, outranking the projected top pick, Mark Appel, on 4 June 2012.
He signed with the Astros on 7 June 2012, with a $4.8 million starting bonus. After, the Astros invited Correa to spring training as a non-roster player on 14 January 2014. They allocated him to the Lancaster Jet Hawks of the Class A-Advanced California League to start the season 2014.
