Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr. was born on September 11, 1967 in New Orleans. His father, Joseph Harry Fowler, was a district attorney in New Orleans, while his mother, Anita Frances, was a judge and later rose to become a Supreme Court justice in her home state of Louisiana. He has a sister named Suzanna.

Although Connick’s parents were both lawyers, they were huge music lovers. They owned a music business and encouraged their son’s pursuit of music as his natural musical talent was manifested from an early age. He began playing the piano at the age of three and performed in public two years later. Before he was ten, Connick had become a member of a local jazz band.

For his education, Harry Connick Jr. attended various schools including the famous New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
